Church Flyers an Effective Recruitment Tool

The “Waiting Child” columns in local newspapers have been a regular part of child-specific recruitment efforts for quite some time; however, many adoption workers may not have considered a similar but more target approach: doing child-specific recruitment through church flyers.

Most churches have “bulletins” or newsletters that are distributed to their congregations on a weekly (sometimes monthly) basis. A few adoption workers have taken the initiative to contact their own church (or neighboring churches) to see if they would be willing to put a “waiting child” flyer as an insert in their bulletin. MARE is currently providing church flyers to five churches that have agreed to distribute them.

Are you ready to ask your church? The churches could insert these flyers in their bulletins (or make them available to the congregation in some other way) once a month - or on whatever timetable works best for them.

The flyers come on a half-sheet of paper and feature a color photograph of a waiting child. (An example of a flyer can be found below.) MARE would be able to provide up to 100 flyers to any church that is interested. Please consider asking your church if they would be willing to help. (Feel free to copy this page to give to the church as an example.) If you have any questions about the church flyers or have a church willing to participate, please call Jennifer Adler of MARE at (517) 783-6273, ext. 235.
